These days, virtually every student opens a laptop to take care of virtually all their classroom duties so you want to be sure your child is equipped with what he/she needs so they can excel in class. If you are operating on a budget, you can still find a great laptop for your student that won’t put such a huge dent in your wallet. The following three cheap laptops for students will not only take care of all their computer needs, but they won’t cost you a fortune either.
1. Acer C720 Chromebook
Price: $199.99 – $249.99
While it may be a little plain to look at, the Acer C720 Chromebook packs a lot of power for such a small laptop. It comes equipped with a 1.4 GHz Intel Celeron Haswell processor which will be more than enough power for surfing the web, editing documents and even watching movies and television shows. The C720 comes with an 11.6″ screen running a resolution of 1366×768. This resolution is a little low when you compare it to other laptops but the screen is still bright and crystal clear and you have more than enough real estate to see what you are doing. The Acer C720 Chromebook comes in two variations – 16GB and 32 GB. While the 16 GB will be enough for the most basic of needs if you think your student will need more storage space for videos or large files you might want to consider the 32 GB model.
2. Samsung Chromebook
Like the Acer, the Samsung Chromebook runs the ChromeOS and is designed to be highly portable. It is, in many ways, similar to the Acer but it does have a much sleeker design. The Samsung Chromebook utilizes a proprietary processor known as theExynos 5000 Series. This processor clocks in at 1.7 GHz which will give you more than enough speed for watching movies, writing papers, surfing the net, and more. The Samsung Chromebook comes with an 11.6″ screen running at 1366×768 that looks bright and clear so your eyes won’t be strained while working. The Samsung Chromebook only comes with 16GB of storage space so you won’t be able to put too many movies on it at once but it should be enough space for you to get the work you need done and it’s fast enough that it won’t slow you down while you work.
3. Asus X551CA 15.6-Inch Laptop
For those of you that are looking for a more traditional laptop experience and not just the ChromeOS experience, consider the Asus X551CA. While nowhere near as portable as the Acer or Samsung, the Asus X551CA does give you the full laptop experience with a full copy of Windows 8 as the operating system. The X551CA utilizes an Intel Celeron running at 1.5 GHz so it won’t be any faster than the Acer or Samsung. It does, however, come with a full 500GB hard drive so you can store as many photos, songs, movies, television shows, and documents that you want. The resolution of the Asus is 1366×768 like the Acer and Samsung, but instead of only 11.6″ of screen real estate you also get a full 15.6″ screen which will give you plenty of room for your work or play.
As you can see, you can easily send your child off to college with a brand new laptop that won’t cost you an arm and a leg to buy. These three cheap laptops for students are the perfect choices for laptops for anyone operating on a budget and they will all fulfill the needs of the student in your life.
